Where does your purchase money go?

Usually, when you buy something new, you end up with a product that is pretty cool and someone on a corporate ladder somewhere gets a payday, but that’s not how we run things here at Ethos Kolekto.

Since our main purpose is to connect consumers in the developed world with artisans in the developing world and use fair fashion to make positive change in the world, it doesn’t make sense for us (well… me… because Ethos Kolekto is a one-woman show) to line our pockets. Since we opened in 2020, we have not kept a single cent for ourselves.

Instead, anytime we have the proceeds to remain solvent, we use them to help others. Most of the proceeds from shop orders are sent right back to the artisan cooperatives to re-stock sold out items or to curate new collections. We have also made 3 micro-loans to women entrepreneurs in Kenya.

Additionally, we donate more than half of our proceeds to established non-profit organizations that are working to end hunger, end poverty, and bring education to all. In 2022, we donated just over $1500 to the Food Bank of the Rockies, the Jane Goodall Institute, the Ubuntu Life Foundation, UNICEF, and the World Food Program.

Our goal is to continue using funds in the same way in 2023 and hope that you can feel good knowing that when you shop at Ethos Kolekto, you can look good, feel good, and that your purchase is doing good for others.
