Meet the Grain of Rice Project

One of the truly amazing parts of owning this shop is the ability to connect with people over a shared love of fashion and of helping people. When we opened back in 2020, I had BIG dreams of taking over the world, and while the world has had other plans, I’ve been honored to have grown as much as I have. Despite world conflict, global inflation, and pandemic, we’ve come together and have found a way to channel shopping into paths of positivity. Because of this, a few months ago, we were able to add products from the Grain of Rice Project to our shop and we are thrilled to be partnering with them.

Grain of Rice Project is a Kenya-based non-profit organization that serves as an academy program, a artisan program, and an online shop. They operate a fair trade certified worksheet in Nanyuki, Kenya where artisans work 5 days a week to bead, sew, and weave jewelry and baskets. The team of artisans work with a team in the U.S. to create products that will be worn and treasured around the world. Each piece comes with a tag that features the name of the artisan who crafted it, along with a photo and a brief biography.

Grain of Rice Project also operates the Grain of Rice Academy, which is comprised of 2 schools in Kenya. These schools aim to provide educational opportunities to local children, regardless of their family income, along with providing health checkups, school meals, and access to clean drinking water.

I’ve shared a few faces of the Grain of Rice artisans below and would love to invite you to take a look at the beautiful pieces that they’ve crafted HERE.
