How is the jewelry in our shop sustainable?

Earth Month is nearly here, which makes this a great time to talk about how sustainable the jewelry and accessories in our shop are.

The artisan partners are absolutely amazing at using what they have readily available to create beautiful new products, which means that they are keeping materials out of landfills and decreasing all of our carbon footprints.

Ethos Kolekto is honored to be able to partner with so many artisans and to be able to showcase the wonderful things they do with :

  • fabric scraps - Find these in totes, clutches, earrings, and baskets from India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Kenya!

  • landfill-bound wooden furniture - These make the beads used in most Kantha jewelry!

  • up-cycled milk bottles - They form the base for the fabric earrings from the Horn of Africa!

  • up-cycled bullet casings - They are melted down, shaped into beads, and are strung into bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.

  • up-cycled metals - Artisans are amazing at finding metal scraps, melting them down, and reshaping and hammering them into gorgeous new jewelry pieces.

  • newspaper - We carry paper bead jewelry from several different cooperatives from multiple African countries.

Many of the brands that we carry at Ethos Kolekto also utilize recycled paper packaging in order to display their work beautifully without needing to chop down more trees! Additionally, ever Ethos Kolekto jewelry order (+ some scarf orders) come to you gift wrapped with re-usable cloth bags and up-cycled ribbons. We also reuse boxes for larger orders and utilize eco-friendlier, reusable soft mailers from Eco Enclose to help shrink our footprint even more.
