Aid Through Trade
If it is possible to own and wear high quality goods that are made by hand in a safe way by artisans who are paid fairly for their work, why wouldn’t you do so?
Today, we want to introduce you to Aid Through Trade. This brand was created in 1993 by Damian Jones, who was a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal in the 1980s. When he returned to the United States after his service term ended, he found that he was still very inspired by the artisans he met in the Kathmandu Valley and the work that they did with handmade glass beads.
When he realized across his travels, the most consistent thing was that women’s lives changed drastically for good when they had their own income, he wanted to do something to continue providing women with this source of revenue. As one of the founding members of the Fair Trade Federation, Aid Through Trade has spent decades partnering with fair trade cooperatives in Nepal to bring gorgeous handmade jewelry to the developed world in a way that also supports women in the developing world.
The artisans created the original “Roll-On Bracelet” and from experience, we can tell you that they are awesome. They come in tons of different colors, patterns, and styles and they are super easy to put on. You literally just roll them on and you’re all set. They look great as singles, in sets of three, or in big stacks and they also come in Mommy & Me sets, friendship bracelets, and in birthstone colors!
They recently set over their new Midnight Blue stack and their new Goddess stack and we’re totally smitten. Each bracelet has a different pattern, but the colors all mix and match beautifully. Stacks come with a hang tag that is signed by the artisan who crafted them, and the personal connection between jewelry makes these bangles great conversation pieces.
We don’t currently stock Aid Through Trade at Ethos Kolekto, though we’d love to in the near future! Until then, be sure to head to the Aid Through Trade site, sign up for their newsletter (and save 30% on your first order), and pick up some new jewelry that does good for women in Nepal. Head to our Instagram to check out the way we’ve styled each of these new Roll-On stacks!
